Power Supply

What to look out for when choosing a power supply

Is the device to be powered near a plug socket? If it is, a power adaptor might be your answer.

Does your network use none PoE switches, and is the device far too far for a power adaptor? If it is, then a PoE injector is likely to be your answer.

PoE standards have been optimised for safety and their are two major differences to look out for - active vs passive.

Active vs Passive PoE

Active PoE means the device will check the input power and if it doesn't meat the devices requirements agasint the 802.3af or 802.3at standard, it won't power up.

Passive PoE means their is no check on the devices power requirments, which is tyipcal on devices such as cameras using 24V PoE.
