Technical Features

Our engineers fired a pair of 1Gbps heads up in our lab and we found them capable of ~600Mbps per port at 50m range on the 60GHz spectrum with an iperf test. It’s important to note however that in order to achieve the full 1Gbps throughput you’ll need to plug both the POE LAN port and the ETH1 port into an aggregate switch or similar device. We did notice physically that there are no port glands so water ingress may be an issue with prolonged use in port locations but these locations require a different grade of product entirely.

Pro Version

The IgniteNet MetroLinq recently was updated to generate 2.5Gbps throughput with an additional SFP port and 2.5Gig Ethernet Port! These are due to ship on the 30th June 2017 so get your pre orders in on the website while you can!

Setup - Nice and Easy

Setting up the 60GHz and 5GHz links requires some simple settings to be selected such as channels and Tx power but we just maxed them out and chose logical settings such as ‘slave’ on the remote radio, ‘master’ on the local radio and we set them to ‘enabled’. Simple stuff. Make sure your SSIDs and passphrases are the same on both devices.

The system and GUI are easy to navigate and to set up. It’s important to note that in order to get the links to fire you must have both the 60GHz and 5GHz channels set up with SSIDs and passphrases.

Alignment

Ligowave's next generation LigoBASE and LigoSU products are designed with price and performance in mind. They operate on the same 5GHz frequencies as other products in this area however offer 600Mbps speeds (150Mbps faster than competing base stations such as the latest PBE-5AC-Gen2 from Ubiquiti). They also include Ligowave's own Quality of Service technology ensuring that business critical data is prioritised.

IgniteNet sell an alignment scope which screws on to the top of the unit. Be gentle with them as they do have a tiny bit of movement on the bracket. The bracketry itself is quite easy to align with 2 x 13mm fine alignment bolts. The GUI itself provides the guide for the fine alignment via percentages on signal strength.

Cloud Platform

We found the cloud platform for the MetroLinq to be quite impressive. To get the units on the system you’ll need a Serial Number and MAC address which can be found on the unit itself. Once they were on the cloud the interface is slick and user friendly and the links are still manageable via the IP address set to the unit.

PtMP (MetroLinq 60 Base Station Sector)

The IgniteNet MetroLinq comes with a Sector version for PtMP uses, we didn’t get a chance to test this one but here are the antenna patterns below:
